Yes, I am the world’s greatest dog show photographer! Thank you so much for noticing. It’s not easy to get shots like this, I can assure you. But you know, I strive for the best, and the best is what happens. What can I say? Perhaps if you pay close attention, you, too, will find yourself with outstanding shots such as these.
Oh, I can assure you it took quite a few years for me to develop the blurry, out of focus look I got on so many of these. But it’s not really as difficult as it may at first appear. Just be sure your camera is on the wrong setting, and your photos, too will look just like mine! Wondering who these folks are? On the left is Little Hitler along with her kids’ 4-H leader and the leader’s daughter. The next two are of Lanky Hanky, the three after that are Miss Banana Head, and that’s followed by the peanut gallery (my dad along with Thing 1 and Thing 2 in the stroller) watching Lanky in the ring.
My nieces, Miss Banana Head and Lanky Hanky, went to the recent AKC dog show with their corgis. I, personally, am not a fan of corgis. I find them too ugly to even be cute in one of those ugly sort of ways. You know what I mean? Take, for instance, these dogs:
First, some ridiculous bit of fluff masquerading as a dog. Real dogs don’t wear pom poms, that’s all I can say. However, they do have a bit of charm about them. Next is the bull dog. A face only a mother could love, says my mother (who would, of course, know, as she is a mother.) And yet, those drooling jowels and extra skin elicit baby talk from a good share of grown women, which means they must have some redeeming qualities.
But corgis? No. Nothing about them makes you want to swoon. Big bat ears, short little legs that turn out like basset hound feet (good grief, if you’re going to have basset hound legs, why don’t you just be a basset hound? Bassets are cute!)
And yet corgis are what my nieces have, and so that is what they show. This was Miss Banana Head’s first show. She did well, although she made one mistake that cost her the win; she ran with her dog. Those short corgi legs couldn’t keep up with her at a trot, so he broke into a Kentucky Derby gallop alongside of her. Banana did fine other than that, she just thought if the other girl in the class was going to run, she ought to as well (soccer player, you know, track and keep up with your opponent.) So instead of first, she came out with second.
Lanky Hanky showed well. Her class was larger and she ended up with third. The boy who won? His brother won at Nationals last year; they’re a pretty competitive family, so we were happy with Lanky’s performance in the ring; it was the first time she’s shown this particular dog.
They’re showing again today…maybe I’ll adjust the settings on my camera and try again…
PS…it was Grammy’s birthday yesterday! Better wish her a happy birthday, y’all. She was 87! My uncle got the greatest picture of her and I’m going to have to share it (sorry, Grandma, it’s just got to be done. It was just too priceless!)
YIKES! I very nearly forgot to have you vote! http://www.blogforayear.com/profiles/desperate-horsewife
