When Darling and I started out this weekend, it was with the intention of spending two nights in a hotel. I’d considered driving back and forth, but that was a lot of gas, not to mention plenty of miles being added to the pickup that Pioneer Ford had allowed us to use. So we booked a room for two nights. But once we got to the fairgrounds, we found a few other folks were sleeping there, and in their trucks or horse trailers. Darling, ever the adventurer, said we ought to do the same. That way, we’d save a bit of money and could spend it elsewhere. Good idea, Darling!
One gorgeous truck, wouldn’t you agree?
Thank you, Pioneer Ford!
So we pulled this lovely truck into one of the barns, leaned the seats back and spent both nights there just outside of the corrals. Have you ever spent the night outside corrals filled with wild horses? Let me tell you, those buggers are nocturnal! They were squealing and snorting and kicking all night long. Darling never heard a thing, however, as she was deep in medicated sleep after taking her allergy medication. I was the lucky one who was walking through zombie land all day Saturday. I slept much better the second night. I don’t know if it was because the horses settled down or because I was too tired to worry about them. But I can definitely say that if you’re ever needing to sleep in a truck, a Ford F150 isn’t bad!
Lest ye be concerned about one’s saftey when sleeping in a truck at the fairgrounds, never fear, for Dudley Do-Right was near! The US Border Patrol brought their horses along to the event. Seems they recently adopted some mustangs for use up in the mountains along the border. Vehicles can’t get to many of the places they go, and they love the mustangs for their sure footedness and willingness to go where they’re asked. They brought four horses along…I wonder if our borders went unprotected while they were there? Ah, well…at least we knew we’d be safe!
